11.01Say Hi Contest

Say Hi (formerly Say Hi to Your Mom) rocked out the small crowd gathered at the Glasshouse on October 19. The band has gome through some major transformations, and is now comprised of its founder and star, Eric Elbogen, who plays all of the instruments on the record, and is accompanied on one song on the album by David Bazan. Keyboardist Nouela Johnston, bassist Westin Glass, and drummer Sam Collins are on tour to support Eric and do a great job. Say Hi are out on the road in support of their new album, The Wishes and the Glitch, which will be out in stores in February, but is available to purchase now from their website, where if you order, you will get an instant download link.

The Wishes and the Glitch isn’t a major deviation from Say Hi’s four previous records, but there definitely is a difference in tone. The addition of a female vocalist on some of the tracks soften the sound and really adds something to the songs. Eric is a master of smart, quirky lyrics that read like a diary, and the trend continues on this album. We were lucky enough to speak to Eric briefly after the show and see how gracious and appreciative he is of his fans (there’s a picture above of Eric holding a present given to him by a fan - a box of crayons). We took a picture of the set list, but he deviated from it, and I was having too much fun and I didn’t write things down. Check out these tracks from their latest effort and from previous albums:

the new tunes sound just as infectious as the old, and i’m glad to hear eric that has a supporting band for this tour . . . saw him solo at spaceland last year and he seemed kind of lonely . . . but i’m missing the “to your mom”
