If you’re looking for party music for tonight, I have some great tunes here. I’m not always swooning over gentle, folky stuff like Shearwater, Fleet Foxes, and Liz Durrett. I also like remixes, electronica, and dance rhythms. Solid Gold, from my Top 10 CDs of 2008, is a giant clue. Gang Gang Dance’s “House Jam” remix is a favorite song of the year, as is Telefon Tel Aviv’s “Helen of Troy” and Crystal Castles’ “Crimewave.” The Dreamtrack remix is my favorite of the Nude covers, and “Specialty Sandwiches” by Emil and Friends was a late entry on the favorite songs list. The B-52s’ “Hot Corner” is as fun and infectious a party song as anything they’ve ever done.
