03.04The Phantom Band

I was sent a couple of songs earlier this year by Glaswegian (I love to say that) outfit The Phantom Band, and one of them, “Left Hand Wave,” has continued to grow on me the more I listen to it.
The six band members are artists, social workers, librarians and lawyers, several of whom also play in other projects. After a period of billing themselves as a different band name every show and wearing bags over their heads for band photos, they solidified their mystery by becoming The Phantom Band.
The Phantom Band’s debut album, Checkmate Savage was released in January and is now available in the States. I find the music growly and slightly irritating but I keep coming back to it. Other good cuts besides the two I have here are “The Howling” and “Halfhound.”
