Following up yesterday’s post about artists from outside the U.S. who have performances at SXSW 2009, here are three more exciting new bands. To see all posts about SXSW 2009, click the category link at the bottom of the post.

Another electronic outfit is the disco trio We Have Band from London, made up of Darren Bancroft (vocals, drums, percussion, sampler), Thomas WP (vocals, guitar, bass, programming) and Dede WP (vocals, percussion, sampler). “Oh!” is their first single, with a whole album of high-energy, catchy dance tunes due for release this fall.
The SXSW schedule offers four opportunities to see We Have Band: on March 18 at the Urban Outfitters Party, on March 19 at the NME Showcase, on March 20 at the Fadar Magazine Party, and on March 21 at the Clash Magazine Showcase and WOXY party. One of those shows would definitely be on my list.

I have been in love with Glaswegians We Were Promised Jetpacks’ “Quiet Little Voices” since it was KEXP’s song of the day sometime last year, nabbed from a three-track demo available only in the U.K. I have hungered for more and been unhappy that a full CD or at least an EP has not been available, at least not in the States. Now that the band is signed to FatCat Records, I see that a record is due out in May. The long anticipation would lead me to prioritize this band ahead of other acts that might be playing at the same time, a necessary evil when attending festivals.
Adam Thompson is the group’s guitar, vocal, and songwriting talent, aided by Michael Palmer on guitar, Sean Smith on bass, and Darren Lackie on drums. They’ll perform on March 18 at Maggie Mae’s and at Emo’s Annex, on March 19 at the SCD Party at End of an Ear, and on March 20 at Homeslice Pizza–all of these are relatively early shows. On March 20 at 7:30 PM they’ll be at La Zone Rosa. Check for specifics on their MySpace page.

Montreal’s Winter Gloves started as a solo project of Charles F. (lead singer/songwriter/wurlitzer)–so much good music starts in bedrooms. But Winter Gloves grew into a four-piece ensemble that includes Pat Sayers (drums), Vincent Chalifour (synth), and Jean-Michel Pigeon (guitar/glockenspiel). The band recently released Let Me Drive, a three-song, digital-only EP as a preview for their full-length debut, About a Girl, to be released on March 24th on Paper Bag Records. The tracks are available there for purchase and digital download. Just listen to “Invisible” and “Party People” on their MySpace page, and you’ll be itching to get your hands on it too.
If I were going to be in Austin, I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to see them at Paper Bag Records Showcase on Wednesday, March 18 and the M for Montreal vs. T for Toronto Showcase on Saturday, March 21.
