03.11A Little Advice

I’m taking a short break from SXSW sampling today because those posts take a lot of time to prepare. So I’m pulling a quickie today for Contrast Podcast #154, which features songs giving advice. For an hour of wisdom without the cost of a shrink, you can’t beat it.
My choice for the podcast was “Dr. Bernice” by Cracker. Besides the sage advice about who you should not ride in a car with, the guitarwork is beautiful, and the plodding rhythm is reflective of a hot night alone outside a western border town. It’s a longtime favorite of mine.
Cracker: Dr. Bernice from Cracker (1992) [Buy]
Other songs I considered:
Listening to your mom is always good advice.
The Decemberists: Shankill Butchers from The Crane Wife (2006) [Buy]
Some people are just not worthy of your time. I love this goth-gone-honky-tonk style.
Over the Rhine: Don’t Wait For Tom from The Trumpet Child (2007) [Buy]
If failed love makes you bitter, it’s best not to go there.
Comet Gain: Don’t Fall in Love if You Want to Die in Peace from Realistes (2002) [Buy]
