Wildflower season is here. I asked my husband, “Are they still wildflowers if I planted them?” “Sure,” he said, “It says so right on the package.” Actually, I collect most of my seeds myself from wild sources, including these tidy tips and goldfields.
Agnes at It All Started With Carbon Monoxide breaks her own rule against posting videos with an old winner by Queen. Rock misses Freddie Mercury. She has also discovered Oddee, a website devoted to things that are…odd, and the 20 Most Amazing Coincidences. Just what we needed, more distractions! But you gotta see.
Lots of new bands to see at Local Vertical, including a vid by Flowers of Hell, which sounds like band that might open for Spinal Tap, but no, they are real and very serious. Violin and horn in the same band. Neat!
Do not miss the lovely song by Lior that features Sia on harmonies at MP3 Hugger.
Retro Music Snob announces the beginning of a new classic rock blog, Rock God Cred. Gotta love your roots.
At Captain Obvious you can find out how the band Cymbals Eat Guitars used Craigslist to get started. Gee, Indie Mom and I are only trolling for furniture there. Also, read about the new Great Lake Swimmers album Lost Channels and cop a couple of tunes. Further down, a live in-studio vid of Handsome Furs.
Congrats to We All Want Someone To Shout For for being featured blog of the week at Break Thru Radio!

Love that Lemonwilde track, thanks for the introduction! You always have a good selection of new stuff and of bands I never heard of. Still working my way through 2008 and will probably hit 2009 when 2010 comes around. Oh well, something to do to keep my mind off of bad things. Thank again for the music and the good writing. A favorite blog of mine to visit!

Hey, I’m glad you like that! I do too. Lemonwilde sent it to me themselves in an e-mail the other day. Sometimes I get the best stuff right from the bands. I meant to say here that at their MySpace site they have directions for how to get the whole EP, but I forgot.

Thank you for the mention! And isn’t it great to see Merz back!

I SO love your spirited words for Freddie Mercury (you are so right) and thank’s for posting the Saint Bernadette track, I had not heard of them before (pssst — their myspace link, above, is broken). Meredith DiMenna — what a voice, reminds me of Johnette Napolitano or Rykarda Parasol, all famous in my brain.
Anyway I’m so glad I found your blog, you’re doing a wonderful job and I am enjoying it enormously!
Warm thoughts from Colorful Colorado, -frank

Thanks for the wonderful words, Frank! And thanks for pointing out that broken link. I fixed it. One of my favorites from Saint Bernadette is “I Own the City,” which is on the player on their MySpace site.

Thanks for the linkage Linda - ditto on the Freddie Mercury sentiments. He was a marvel.
