03.31Amos the Transparent

It’s a sad fact that I can’t listen to everything I’m sent, and even though I try sometimes it takes me a long time to discover I’ve been sitting on something wonderful. That’s the case with What Big Teeth You Have, an EP by Amos the Transparent that I received a month ago. At present, the band is selling the EP at shows, with a formal release planned for sometime mid-year.
This outfit started out as the collaboration of Ottawa songwriter Jonathan Chandler and friend Christopher Wilson. Their previous full-length CD was Everything I’ve Forgotten to Forget, released in 2007, which included a guest appearance by Stars’ Amy Millan. The group now incorporates six members, having added Mark Hyne, James Nicol, Dan Hay, and Kate Cooke.
The music is warm folk/pop that gently teases the ears and imagination, although live sets are reportedly quite “explosive.” They have performed with Tokyo Police Club and Young Galaxy. Until you can get hold of the five-song EP, which is all goodness, I can recommend the previous CD, especially “After All That, It’s Come To This” with Amy Millan.

Isn’t it just the coolest? I tell ya, it’s a shame that EP isn’t for sale yet. All five songs on it are just as good as Lemons.
