I’ve had my 13-year-old grandson visiting all week, so I have spent more time with him and less time on the Internets. We went hiking, and he can identify almost as many wildflowers as I can. My native flower garden (above photo) is at its peak now, so we dug up last year’s vegetable garden and put in new plants for summer. Planting seeds is your faith that the future holds good things.
He experienced the perils of country living: Wednesday we waited 45 minutes for a gopher snake to come off the rear axle of my car so we could go to the store. Yesterday we took it easy and went to the movies.
A quick trip around the blogroll:
As always, Merz at Mars Needs Guitars makes me wonder where I was that I never discovered all this fantastic music, which he presents in thoughtful theme packages. Yesterday’s “Hurry Up and Wait” post is a treat. Pia Fraus! Why don’t I know Pia Fraus?
Sean at Battery In Your Leg posts a review of the dreamy new Dead Leaf Echo album and an interview with Charles Cave of White Lies, who are on my short list for the Coachella next Friday.
Side One Track One has such an individual take on the newest music, and his amazing pocket reviews provide what you need to know quickly. I try those myself sometimes. It’s much harder than it looks.
If you’re a fan of the Felice Brothers, see Muruch’s detailed review of their latest album Yonder Is the Clock.
Muzzle of Bees boasts a podcast, a notice of a new album by Levon Helm, and a memorial to Kurt Cobain. And if you haven’t gotten into Rural Alberta Advantage, here’s another chance you should take.
MP3 Hugger reminds me by posting a track that I have to listen to Aussie folksters An Horse’s whole album. Don’t miss the Figurines and Parenthetical Girls either, those are good.
Ian France, of our blogmate Danish Poet Blog, sent us his own remix. He’s done a video for it too from clips of old sci-fi movies. Check out more of his stuff at Fairtilizer.

How to get my attention fast? Name your band after a Stone Roses song and name your debut album after an Echo and the Bunnymen song.

It doesn’t hurt to sound like the Libertines/Doherty either.

Linda, Thanks for the mention and for the wonderful comments you left at MNG! Out of anyone I know in the blogosphere I truly believe you understand my situation the best. And you have been a great source of comfort and advice in these dark times of mine. I really appreciate that, more than words can say….
