I’m wrapping up the list of acts on the Coachella 2009 lineup for next Saturday that I have some familiarity with. I had to take a photo of this backpack, worn by a member of DeVotchKa’s audience last year. It makes me ask, “Who would Jesus blog?”
A couple of weeks ago we watched the DVD of Rachel Getting Married and found that Tunde Adebimpe, lead singer of TV On the Radio played the role of the groom. For this particular track, from the latest charity album of the humanitarian organization War Child, music legends were asked to choose a current band to cover one of their classic songs.
Check yesterday’s NPR World Café recording TV On the Radio talking about their latest album, Dear Science. I like this band better and better the more I hear them.

I have never been a huge Calexico fan, but I have heard that they are excellent live, and I liked last year’s Carried To Dust a lot. Uncle T thinks very highly of them.

This alt band of the 90s from Chapel Hill, NC, has made a comeback this year with Leaves in the Gutter. This song is an old favorite of mine, and “Misfits and Mistakes” on their MySpace site sounds good too.

Tinariwen is a north African group bringing their music from a different desert, very beautiful, inspiring, and worth seeking out.

Calexico are indeed outstanding live. I saw them play with Iron & Wine a few years back and it was really something.
