Opening for psychedelic rockers Silversun Pickups’ return to the stage last Sunday at the Glass House (show review and photos here) must be both thrilling and intimidating, but Sarah Negahdari and her band The Happy Hollows were more than up to the challenge. In fact, they have opened for SSPU before at larger venues–the Wiltern and the Fillmore.
Imagine a more melodic Deerhoof spun in a blender with the Breeders and the Raincoats, but better than you could ever imagine such a mixture might be, and you have an idea of the Happy Hollows’ sound. Charles Mahoney (bass/vocals) and Chris Hernandez (drums) supported Negahdari’s frenetic vocals and guitar in a no-holds-barred performance that was welcomed enthusiastically by Sunday’s audience. This is a group that MUST be seen live to be properly appreciated.
Some of the songs on the setlist are not on either of their EP’s, so hopefully a new release is in progress. “Monster Room” and “High Wire,” both of which you can stream on their MySpace page, are especially good. The two mp3s here are both from their 2008 EP Imaginary. “Tambourine” is a killer of a closer.
Setlist:
1. Monster Room
2. Faces Faces
3. Shark
4. High Wire
5. Labyrinth
6. Belly of the Whale
7. Lieutenant
8. Tambourine

Per your comment at MNG:
No I am not “lumping” you into the “against me” group. In fact, if you read the whole thread I complimented Speed Of Dark (you) on what a good music blog should be. Go back and read it, it’s about the fourth comment down. You know I *heart* U!

Sorry highjacking this thread, BTW good concert reviews and pics! Ace stuff!
I will admit though that I was quite surprised that you thought that site was good. It actually surprised me that so many thought it was good. I think it is total shite. Lazy blogging, no content, no words, just a BS way to give away music. But you were right in saying “Bottom line, do YOUR blog the way YOU envision it, and you clearly have a specific vision in mind.”
And BTW, my praise comment of Speed Of Dark (you) was the sixth comment not the fourth one. Go back and read it……………

OK, good. I apologize for missing that. I was skimming really quickly last night, so no wonder I missed it.
About that site, the guy wanted input. I tried to give him both positive and negative feedback. I told him the things I liked, but what I don’t like is that I wish I knew what he bases his ratings of albums on. In fact, every time I think about his site, that issue bugs me. That’s the same thing you don’t like about it. It IS lazy.
