Hot September Sun

The week ahead, instead of bringing fall weather to southern California, brings a return of scorching temperatures. Yesterday I looked longingly at the beautiful winter squashes that are now appearing at the farmer’s market. No way could I turn on the oven for an hour to bake them to melting deliciousness, not even at night. Another week of salads and whatever I can find to cook outside on the barbeque. Maybe these songs will appease the Sun God.

Hopefully, I will see It Might Get Loud this weekend. I am not that crazy about the Edge, but I get excited thinking about watching Jimmy Page and Jack White.

I can’t wait for the new album by up and coming Silverlake band Local Natives. If you like this song, check out their impromptu cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Cecilia on Youtube. Fan-flippin-tastic!

This is a strange and beautiful album, mostly instrumental, combining electronica and shoegaze. I can feel it growing on me.

I must confess to not visiting here for several days Linda - the last post I saw was your creepy critters one, and that spider freaked me out so much I stayed away until I thought there may be a new post to replace it on the top of the page!

I had a huntsman in my bedroom yesterday that caused me to flee in horror and disgust - I can’t imagine having to deal with fat furry spiders like yours. Shudder.

    Agnes,
I am sorry my tarantula scared you away! Will I have to change that photo? One reason I can stand having tarantulas around is that we hardly ever see them, and one will never appear in the bedroom.

I got my photo only because I unknowingly splashed water down its hole when I was watering some plants on the property. It didn’t like being wet, and it came out to get dry. They move so slowly I had time to go in the house and get the camera and take a lot of photos. It climbed up a tree and stayed there for hours, letting every molecule of water evaporate.

I can tolerate a spider that moves that slowly and is large enough to see easily and avoid. Roaches scare me a lot more than tarantulas!

Great story. At least they’re slow - less chance of running up your leg I suppose!

We don’t get roaches out here, thank goodness! I don’t think I’d like them much either.

I really like that Yppah song. Had never heard of them. Will have to investigate.

Me too, Charles. Kinda weird and cool at the same time. I picked up several from this album because I liked this song.
