Halloween Mix, Pt 4: the Unexpected

This song from Alberta Cross’s debut full-length Broken Side of Time has turned out to be a favorite of mine, with its spooky instrumentation and Petter Ericson Stakee’s ghostly hoots and wolfy howls. This is a pretty decent album too–a good way to use up your eMusic downloads.

Imagine that Wednesday of the Addams Family grew up and started a band. That band would be Dark Dark Dark. Nona Marie Invie and Marshall LaCount tell the story of a couple who drowned and decided they liked being dead: “Being here is better than nothing at all.” For sure. The Snow Magic was one of my Favorites of 2008.

I wish I liked other Band of Skulls tunes as much as I like this one. The ghoulish cries at the beginning make this a “stunning” Halloween number.

I think most of Rainbow Arabia’s songs make great additions to the Halloween party mix. They are weird, wonderful, and fun.

The Builders and the Butchers are also perfect for the season. Their songs are macabre but fun, in the same vein (ha ha ha) that Oingo Boingo used to explore. All you Twilight fans should take a walk by Vampire Lake. “Your neck looks good to me!”

I have been enjoying the Editors’ album In This Light and On This Evening, especially “Eat Raw Meat=Blood Drool” and “Papillon.” Here’s a remix that, while not exactly scary, will warm up your dance floor. I love that line, “It kicks like a sleep twitch.”
